Mosaic Art
I use a style of mosaic that I have put together between my years living in Baja, Mexico and my year laying high end marble & tile with an old Italian Master. Listed here are some examples of my past work and my process for creating new work.
My Process & Your Choices
Pricing
After you contact me, I will work out an estimation based on the factors described below. From this collaborative effort a mutual agreement on the design, price and timetable is determined. Most custom designs and installations set at a flat fee, however extensive design consulting or challenging installations sites converts to an hourly rate.
Once the design is agreed upon, I require a 50% deposit to put your project on the work schedule and begin production.
The remaining 50% of the cost is payable prior to shipping or installation of the completed piece.
The following subjects greatly shape the price of the final project.
Tile Size vs. Details
The more detailed a mosaic image, the smaller the pieces must be.
The smaller the pieces are, the harder they are to manipulate.
Therefore, the more detailed the image, the higher the cost.
Interior or Exterior
I can work on most surfaces such as: ceilings, walls, floors, pools, jacuzzis, showers, furniture.
Colored Grouts
I can color grout to any specification, including my specialty of using several different colors
within one mosaic.
Tile Type
I use handmade Mexican tiles, which I break and cut myself.
I can use other varieties of tile if agreed upon in advance.
I am also open to insetting other non-tile objects such as; stones, coins, shells or what have you.
Design, Fabrication & Installation
Custom Design
Together we can create the image of your dreams, by using any of the following methods or a combination that will perfectly suit your project.
· I can create an original design for you entirely from my imagination.
· Or create a design based on your imagination.
· Or just with your color guidance.
· Or an original design that incorporates shapes or symbols that you bring to the table.
· Or I can work from your drawings or photos.
Fabrication
· At my site, I can prefab our design onto concrete panels called hardibacker which can be transported to your site and bolted and/or cemented permanently into your architecture. This can form a seamless union with existing tile.
· I can work on-site, drawing the design onto your surface and applying directly onto it.
· I can create interior or exterior hanging wall pieces. These are completely pre-fabricated. You just put a screw in the wall and hang it like a painting.
Installation
· I live in San Diego, California and install locally for an agreed installation fee.
· I will travel outside San Diego to install the work on-site, when travel expenses and accommodations are provided as agreed upon prior to fabrication.
· Advantages to having me install the piece include: freedom to fabricate a more intricate, multi-leveled piece that requires technical know-how and patience to grout and the unusual use of multi-colored grout to enhance the image.
